A 4-week course for anyone ready to slow down, get muddy, and dive into the rhythm of the wheel. No experience needed — just curiosity, patience, and a willingness to let go of perfection.

Over the course of four weekly sessions, you’ll learn the foundations of wheelthrowing: centering, shaping, trimming, glazing, and more. Each participant works at their own pace, with full guidance and their own wheel for the duration of the course.

Session 1 – Getting to Know the Wheel (2 hrs)
We’ll start with the basics: wedging, centering, and forming your first pieces from a ball of clay. You’ll begin to understand how the clay moves and how to work with it. This session focuses on throwing cylinders — the foundation for almost every vessel. Most participants will make 2–4 cylinders, which will later become mugs.

Session 2 – Trimming (2 hrs)
Your pieces are now leather-hard — the perfect stage for trimming. We’ll begin by learning how to refine and shape the bottoms of your forms from last week. You’ll be introduced to trimming tools, foot shapes, and finishing techniques. We’ll also learn how to make and attach handles, and you’ll have the chance to experiment with carving tools to add detail and texture. If there’s time, you can hop back on the wheel to continue practicing your throwing skills.

Session 3 – Glazing (2 hrs)
Your pieces have now gone through their first firing and are officially bisqued — hardened but still porous and ready to absorb glaze. We’ll start with a demo of different glazing techniques and then move into hands-on glazing. You’ll glaze your trimmed pieces, and if you’re trimming any remaining work during this session, those will be clear glazed for you.

Session 4 – Sand + Share (1 hr)
Your pieces are done! We’ll sand the bottoms and gather for a final moment to share, reflect, and admire everyone’s work. You’ll go home with 3–6 finished pieces — and a deeper connection to the process of throwing on the wheel.
